A little bit about me…

Hi! I’m Dr. Noor- Your local friendly Portland dentist. I’m not your average dentist. I’m a wife to an amazing family medicine resident, who keeps me from falling off cliffs! I’m also a mom to two little munchkins who keep me on my toes 24/7. My side hobby involves teaching barre classes to help clients learn more about their bodies and maintain a healthy lifestyle. I’m a millennial and am not ashamed of it. Oh, and I am obsessed with teeth.

The reason why I started this blog is because I had way too many patients tell me that they straight-up hate the dentist. I want to change your mind about dentistry and alleviate all of your dental fears. You can ask me anything! From how to reduce your dental anxiety to why you should floss daily.. I’m obsessed with teeth, and I want to hear about YOUR teeth. No judgement, no injections— just a pain free place to talk…. teeth!

I hated going to the dentist as a child; it sucked. I still remember the sound of the drill that sounded like a lawnmower shaking my brain or the crazy suction that was strong enough to suck up my tongue. Even the smells of the dental office spiked up my anxiety. SO, right now you’re probably thinking why the heck did I even become a dentist?

Well, the older I got, the more I realized that I actually enjoyed visiting my dentist. Set aside the gross, nasty stuff, I loved connecting with the staff and the individuals in the office. Every time I visited, they would ask me about my family, or how my last vacation was. They really cared about me. By the end of the appointment, we would be laughing, cracking jokes, or taking selfies! I couldn’t believe it! I actually loved it!

“..They really cared about me.”

Flash forward 10 years, two kids later, I am proud to say that I made the best decision going into the dental field. I couldn’t be happier :) I chose dentistry because I love human connection. For me, it wasn’t about the lifestyle or the artistry involved; it was more than that. I love meeting people and connecting with them on a personal level. Lets be real, people are trusting me to work in an intimate part of their body, their mouth. This might come hard to some people, but to me, this comes naturally. I can talk to my patients for hours about anything! Conversations about their last dog sitter, or about the time they packed their bags and moved out to Portland, or their last trip to Italy or their family reunion in Iowa (the list goes on). I literally feel like our conversations turn into deep therapy and most of the time I feel like we’re just hanging out as friends! (The best part about my job is treating my patients like they are my friends! :)

I learn so much about someone within a short visit that these patients truly turn into my lifelong friends. I still keep in touch with my first patient ever in dental school who happened to be my Douala during my first pregnancy! (She also took his first baby pictures). These are my friends for life. I create these long lasting relationships and its what drives my happiness; the dentistry part comes easy.

I absolutely love my job, and it keeps me fueled. There is never a dull moment at the office. Dentistry is my happy place, my life, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I promise if you hang out with me, you’ll love hanging out at the dentist office too ;)
